I have suffered from mental health problems for most of my life. I am not ashamed to admit it anymore because I have witnessed a recent change in our society as we are starting to become a more open and honest place. There is so much emphasis being placed on tackling stigma and discrimination that we will see more and more people openly discussing the nature of mental health. I am proud to be an active part of raising this profile and championing such an important, high profile issue that reaches out to so many people.

"Lee Cambule's (sic) speech was superb. It was awful to hear about his past and the fact that he had tried to take his own life. He has managed to completely turn his life around to now be in a position where he can help others who find themselves in the same dark place he once was."

So how am I involved? I began as a Mental Health Champion in a previous organisation, working with managers and staff to raise awareness of mental health. Through this opportunity, I have been working with the Time to Change Wales Campaign, a national campaign funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and Comic Relief. This included staring in the Reach Out campaign, to raise awareness of the importance of doing the small things that make a big different to someone with mental health issues. You can find out more about this brilliant initiative through their website, just click on the link below.

More importantly, I work hard to encourage others to talk. In support of that goal, I will be using this website to publish a number of blogs on the subject (many of which will be tackling some of my experiences from a life's journey dealing with mental health issues). I hope that this is something that will take off and it will encourage more people to read about mental health and feel safe enough to discuss their views, thoughts and concerns. So please check out my blogs, get in contact and let's tackle the issues of mental health awareness together.
